Finished Quilt!

The quilt for my brother is finished! Huray! I'm feeling really good about Christmas being on FRIDAY! I still have more sewing, sewing, sewing to do but if I keep that lead foot on the petal of my sewing machine like I've been doing for the last 3 weeks I'm confident I'll get it all done! Maybe, just maybe, I'll fit that visit to the eyebrow lady in somewhere...I'm not lovin the Muppet style eyebrows I've been sporting the last couple of weeks!
Now back to the quilt. This was such a fun thing to throw together! It only took me two days to complete, and in my opinion that makes life very exciting! Two days meaning in between other projects...and, oh ya that job I still hopefully have at Maisonnette! Haha just kidding, actually people like my mom and our Thursday/Friday employee Candace have been very understanding of the sewing-room-bubble/cave like behavior I have been exerting. Anyways, it was a fast and easy gift to whip up, and I got a chance to use the free motion quilting setting my NEW Elna Quilting Queen sewing machine!! Yes, I got a new machine and now my older Elna has a prominent spot on my desk at home! I will always love her so very much but there are things about this new Elna that make my life so easy...like the automatic thread cutter, the knee foot lifter, the hundreds of different stitches...the list goes on and on.

This was the first time i've ever used the free motion quit setting and it's pretty hard to keep your curves nice n' even, so I ended up just going crazy with it most of the time! It was fun!

To construct this quilt I started by sewing the front and back pieces right sides together leaving an opening to pull the quilt right side out.  Then I sewed all the way around the outside edge.  Then I placed all the circles where I wanted them, ironed them down with some fusible webbing, and quilted them down. TaDA! Done!

9 Days Unitl Christmas...

YES, that is what I read when I opened my inbox this morning! What are these people trying to do to me?! Manipulate me into freaking out and buying all my gifts instead of making them?! Well, I'm staying strong! I start sewing when I get to work, and sew when I get home until the time I go to bed! No joke!

Right now I'm working on crib skirts and bumpers for a lady having twins. Just when I think I'm done there is always ONE MORE to do!! Soo in the middle of trying to get that done before next week, I'm trying my very berry best to get my Christmas sewing done! It probably isn't the best idea to blog about a gift you are giving someone but it's probably more likely for the President of the United States to stop by Maisonnette and use the restroom than it is for my brother to stumble over my blog and read it! HAHA!
Last year I got him an awesome antique mustache cup and shower gel. This year I wanted to make him a quilt for his 1920's loft apartment he will be moving into. Since he's mister artist extordinare with a fancy degree and all, I wanted to have fun with this one!

I'm seeing teal, orange, and gray

No this is not meant as a torture device! It's an OLFA circle cutter and I'm about to try it out for the first time!( I'll let you know how it goes!)

I know, I know I need a manicure...yes those are over grown cuticles! Wait you are suppose to be looking at my OLFA circle cutter demonstration! : )

That is an AMAZING little device! It cut many, many circles for me in less than 15 minutes! It's things like this that make me throw my hands in the air and say YES, YES, YES!!

Now all I have to do is sew everything together!

Fun stuff!!

Maisonnette: Your One Stop Shop this Holiday!

It's Christmas at Maisonnette!! I hope I'm not the only one who doesn’t know what happened to November! It's a good thing I love to sew with all my heart because it's the only thing I've been doing for the last couple of weeks, and it's the only thing I'll be doing until the night before Christmas!

So much to sew, and so little time! I will do anything to avoid the mall this time of year so I've been having fun making gifts, searching out Etsy sites, and independent retailers for unique gifts to give this year. It's much less stressful!

Don't have time to make your gifts this year? Maisonnette has pleanty of amazing readymade gifts! All of our gifts are handmade by local artists who have put thought, and love into each piece they make.
